Site Profile
Tauro Hill Park is one of the most important green spaces in central Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania. It connects the historic city center with the vibrant Naujamiestis district.
As part of the city’s development plan, the park was redesigned to incorporate natural landscape features, cultural spaces, and sustainable infrastructure, including a modern, fully automated irrigation system. The irrigation upgrade was supported by the Tauro Hill and Lutheran Gardens Redevelopment Project with funding from the European Union.
To modernize the irrigation system at Tauro Hill Park, project planners had to consider steep slopes, multiple elevation levels, and various soil types. Since the landscape includes expansive lawns, ornamental beds, and other vegetation, separate watering needs for each area were also evaluated.
Maintaining healthy landscapes in this popular urban park demanded a flexible approach. The irrigation system had to deliver precise water distribution across uneven terrain and uniform coverage on slopes to minimize runoff. It also had to provide efficient watering for diverse planting zones and maximum efficiency to meet sustainability goals, while offering a beautiful, welcoming landscape for visitors.
The Hydrawise® enabled HCC Controller in combination with the EZ Decoder System was selected to deliver advanced zone control with a simple two-wire installation. This solution reduced wiring cost and complexity while ensuring easy system expansion. With Hydrawise smart irrigation management, the system can be monitored and adjusted remotely, enabling proactive maintenance, real-time alerts, and data-driven scheduling to optimize water use and system performance.
For water-efficient coverage, Hunter MP Rotator® Nozzles and stainless steel I-20 Rotors were selected. MP Rotator Nozzles provide steady, even matched precipitation that reduces runoff, while the I-20 Rotors deliver reliable, uniform coverage across larger turf areas. To ensure dependable flow control across the large irrigation network, 2″ (50 mm) PGV Valves were also installed.
To complete the setup, Soil-Clik® and Wireless Rain-Clik® Sensors were installed to automatically adjust irrigation schedules according to on-site conditions and save more water. Soil-Clik measures soil moisture at the root zone and stops irrigation when adequate moisture is present to prevent overwatering. Rain-Clik quickly shuts off irrigation during rain events, conserving water and protecting the landscape.
The new system provides comprehensive smart irrigation across the entire park to create a healthy, beautiful green space in Vilnius. Automated irrigation control through the Hydrawise Platform, supported by soil and rain sensors, enables data-driven scheduling that reduces water waste. High-efficiency overhead watering across the varied terrain further improves overall system performance.
Altogether, the system achieves exceptional reliability and flexibility with faster, more efficient maintenance. By integrating advanced Hunter technologies, Tauro Hill Park now benefits from a sustainable irrigation solution that supports the city’s vision to create resilient, environmentally responsible urban spaces.
