The User Type determines the access that a person has to operate a controller. Depending on the permissions you assign, users can view controller information, make configuration changes, manage the controller, or manage the Hydrawise account.
| User Settings | Description | |
|---|---|---|
| Add Picture | You can upload an image from your operating system or mobile device | |
| User Name | The name of the account user | |
| Email Address | The email address that the new user will use to log in to the Hydrawise account | |
| Type of User | Read-Only | Can see everything and water zones manually, but cannot change any settings or manage the account or its people. |
| Read/Write | Everything a Read-only user can do, plus setting up and changing controllers, zones, schedules and watering programs. | |
| Account Owner | Everything a Read/ Write access user can do, plus managing the people on the account and the account itself (adding/removing users, deleting a controller, changing permissions, disconnecting a contractor, and deleting the account). Important: Deleting controllers is restricted to Account Owners only and is not available to Read/Write users. This helps prevent accidental controller deletions by the above users | |

Who becomes the Account Owner when an account is created?
The person who first created the account is automatically assigned as the first Account Owner.
Can an account exist without an Account Owner?
No. Every account must always have at least one Account Owner.
Can I remove or downgrade the last remaining Account Owner?
No. You cannot remove or downgrade the last Account Owner. Another user must first be promoted to Account Owner. If the last Account Owner is removed through another process, a replacement Account Owner is automatically assigned.
Can I promote myself to a higher permission level?
No. You cannot raise your own permission level. Only an Account Owner can change user roles, and users cannot promote themselves.
Can I reduce my own permission level?
Yes. An Account Owner can lower their own role (for example, from Account Owner to Read/ Write) as long as another Account Owner remains on the account. The last remaining Account Owner cannot step down until another user has been made an Account Owner.
Can I edit my own profile information?
Yes. Regardless of your role, you can always update your own profile information, including your name, email address, and measurement units.
Who manages the account when a contractor is assigned?
While a contractor is managing the account, the contractor handles day-to-day account management activities. A homeowner can still be the Account Owner of their own account, depending on how the account was set up.
