The Hunter BOC-SOL provides optional solar power to Hunter BOC-xxx Battery-Operated Controllers. BOC-SOL includes a built-in weather-resistant solar panel, an internal LiFePo4 rechargeable battery, a replacement battery compartment cover for the BOC Controllers with 40' (12 m) of cable, a universal mounting bracket, and mounting hardware. The BOC-SOL bracket may also be pole-mounted with locally-supplied, stainless-steel band clamps 5/ 16" (8 mm). The BOC-SOL is designed for installation in direct sunlight and should face the most reliable source of sunlight throughout the day.
- Unscrew the retaining ring on the BOC base, and remove the cover. Remove any existing batteries from the BOC battery holder, since they will no longer be used. You can also remove the entire battery holder to save space.
- Insert the battery connector in the replacement cap into the BOC compartment. It can be inserted only one way. Press until it clicks into place. If the battery has been pre-charged, the LED in the BOC compartment will flash green briefly.
- Push the compartment cap back on, and secure it with the retaining ring.

The long cable that connects the BOC-SOL to the BOC Controller should be inserted first through the back of the wall-mount bracket, then fed through the ball mount hole before attaching the BOC-SOL.
Important: Unroll the full length of cable first, and route the bare wire ends up from the BOC location through the next steps. The included BOC compartment cover is too large to fit through a small hole or conduit.
- Open the BOC-SOL battery compartment using a small Phillips screwdriver.
- Feed the length of cable from the valve box or other BOC Controller location through any holes or conduits to the final solar panel mounting location.
- This cable then routes into the BOC-SOL battery compartment through a small hole in the ball socket.
- The cable exits through a rubber grommet to prevent water intrusion. Small needle-nose pliers can help guide the cable through the grommet, allowing you to pull enough cable through to reach the terminals.
- The connecting terminals are located just above the battery storage compartment. Correct DC polarity is critical: connect the incoming black wire to the black-coded (–) terminal and the incoming red wire to the red-coded (+) terminal. Replace the battery compartment cover when complete.
- The bracket assembly can now be installed on the BOC-SOL. Loosen the locking screw and slide the locking plate open, then insert the ball mount into the socket. Lightly tighten the screw to hold the BOC-SOL in place, adjust to the desired position, then fully tighten the screw.
- Secure the bracket to the mounting surface with the included mounting hardware, or use stainless-steel band clamps to attach the completed assembly to a pole or pipe.
- Connect the battery connector to the mating receptacle in the BOC-SOL. The connector can only be inserted one way to ensure proper polarity. Make sure the red wire from the battery aligns with the red line at the connector.
